Tim S. Leonard is the Founding Member of The Leonard Law Firm, PLLC. A trial attorney with over 40 years of civil litigation experience, Tim focuses his practice on personal injury, defective products, and business litigation. He has worked in the legal industry since 1978, having been elected to Partner status at some of the top law firms in the region. In addition to his work with The Leonard Law Firm, PLLC, he has also represented clients in cases involving energy disputes, oil and gas product manufacturing, patent infringement, financial services, construction, and more. He has worked with Fortune 100 companies, national banks, large medical facilities, and more. He now puts all of his many years of litigation experience and success to work helping individuals and small businesses with their legal issues.
Tim is a true trial lawyer who has experience at every stage of litigation, from filing lawsuits through appeals, having handled an array of litigation for businesses and individuals on both the plaintiff and defense side. He has represented numerous individuals in matters involving premises liability, vehicular accidents, work related injuries, and defective products. As a proven trial attorney, Tim offers a solid understanding of the litigation process and brings real courtroom experience to each engagement. This translates into efficient discovery, aggressive trial preparation and achieving the right results in a timely and cost-effective manner. Tim graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1975, with honors. Subsequently, he earned his law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1978. During law school, Tim served as Associate Editor of the Texas Tech Law Review. After law school, he spent less than three years as an associate attorney before climbing the ranks to law firm partner, where he has stayed for the remainder of his prestigious career.
He is admitted to practice in all state courts in Texas, the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Northern, Southern, and Western Districts of Texas, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He also obtained an Advanced Arbitration Certification (Domestic and International) from the University of Houston Law Center in 2012.
Tim has been named a “Go-To Litigator in Houston and the Gulf Coast” by American Lawyer and the Association of Corporate Counsel. He has also achieved the highest possible rating for ethics and practice skill, the AV Preeminent Rating, from Martindale-Hubbell.
He is a member of the Houston Bar Association, State Bar of Texas Litigation Section, College of the State Bar of Texas (Life Member), Texas Bar Foundation (Sustaining Life Fellow), American Bar Association Litigation Section and Antitrust Section, American Arbitration Association, Bar Association of the Fifth Circuit, and Insurance Information Council. Outside of his extensive and successful legal career, Tim enjoys spending time with his family and serving on the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Gulf Coast Chapter Cast for the Cure Steering Committee.

• Prosecuted and defended patent infringement actions ranging from wellhead protection specialty tools to business method patents for financial institutions.
• Represented operator in multiple personal injury and wrongful death actions that arose from a line rupture.
• Enforcement of Article 9 multimillion-dollar security interest in drilling equipment against competing interest of equipment supplier and debtor.
• Defended major consumer lender against state and private actions alleging predatory lending and deceptive trade practices, defeating class certification, and obtaining take nothing judgments or dismissals in each instance.
• Defended Fortune 100 financial institution in connection with a tax-free spinoff where former subsidiary sued for undercapitalization.
• Defended the Chief Operating Officer of a Fortune 100 company in an SEC investigation and related private litigation where the company had previously consented to a judgment that included a 10(b)(5) fraud finding relating to content of the Form 10(k).
• Part of the negotiating team that concluded a comprehensive settlement between a mortgage lender and the 50 state Attorneys General.
• Defended a national bank and its subsidiary in a trade practice action brought by a state Attorney General, obtaining a ruling that the lawsuit was preempted by federal law.
• Prosecuted builder’s risk coverage claim for major engineering and construction company where existing pier that was to be used as a construction platform and then destroyed was prematurely destroyed by fire.
• Represented broker/dealer in multiple securities fraud lawsuits arising out of private offerings and disallowed tax benefits.
• Defended a Fortune 100 company in a series of product liability lawsuits seeking to impose alter ego liability and/or RICO liability relating to the operations of a former manufacturing subsidiary.
